anton barbeau hat ein neues album herausgebracht. nicht wirklich eine sensation, denn kaum jemand kennt ihn. und alle, die ihn kennen, wissen um seinen enormen output. wiederum für erstere grund genug, sich mit dem burschen auseinanderzusetzen.

die sunday times setzt ihn in eine reihe mit anderen großen männern (sprich singer/songwritern), die sich in und um sacramento verdient gemacht haben: xtc's andy partridge gehört dazu genauso wie robyn hitchcock, julian cope oder auch bevis frond's nick saloman. in ihrer heimat ist anton ein großer, räumte awards ab wie ich bei der kirmes nieten.

und wenn man von seinen platten spricht, spricht man von einer erklecklichen anzahl, ein gutes dutzend dürfte es mittlerweile, läßt man die wiederauflagen außen vor, sein.

das aktuelle album heißt "the automatic door" und ist auf shifty disco herausgekommen. es repräsentiert den mittlerweile ergrauten herrn merklich aufgeräumt. die weitausholende geste des wüsten powerpoppers und experimenteurs scheint auf- und sich einer ruhigeren machart ergeben zu haben. und dennoch klingt es frisch und neu und aufregend, was anton wieder zusammengebraut hat. myspace
